Swarathma’s new video – looks brilliant, sounds great and sends out an important message!

Just checked out this brilliant new video by Swarathma, featuring Shubha Mudgal called Pyaasi. The video also serves as a Public Service Announcement for the increasing water shortage India is facing, and has been done very nicely. So let’s see what it’s all about.
The video is set in Rajasthan, and focuses on this young girl who is on a quest to get drinking water. The legendary Shekhar Kapur was actually the creative consultant on the video, and it’s been shot pretty artistically. The message it sends out is quite clear - we need to be more aware about saving water and something needs to be done now. This video just goes to show what people in rural area go through just to get a little drinking water.
Although the song is great, and so is the video, I can’t help but notice that Shubha Mudgal doesn’t feature anywhere in the video, although her outstanding voice more than makes up for the lack of her physical presence. Also, when I first saw the video, I kept thinking the song was going to take off into something more than just guitars, bass vocals and the customary (and seemingly obligatory) folk instrument along with the egg shaker. Hmmm… guess I was wrong. But then again, adding the regular drums and guitar solos into the equation would just be so clichéd. So this approach is actually quite fresh and sounds great, and the vocal harmonies towards the end of the song really add a lot of feel to the track.
All said and done, the video is a really good one! Watch it, and do let us know what you think.
