Songs that add flavour to the FIFA Fever!

FIFA Fever has hit the world! And what makes it even hotter, is the songs that go along with the game. So let’s check out the 5 really great FIFA anthems, and see how the music has evolved with the game.

Let’s start with what’s happening right now, and work our way backwards. What say?

2010 – This year’s anthem is an awesome song called ‘Waka Waka’ by Shakira featuring South African group, Man, does Shakira look Freshlyground. The song really didn’t do much for me, but Shakira does look hot in the video! Anyway, the song will be performed live by Shakira and Freshlyground at the Closing Ceremony before the World Cup Final on July 11.

2006 – R n B singer, Toni Braxton collaborated with multinational operatic pop quartet Il Divo to create ‘The Time of Our Lives’, which was the anthem for FIFA 2006. The song was performed at the World Cup opening festivities in Munich. Absolutely awesome video for the song!

2002 – The official song for this year was Anastacia’s ‘Boom’. Man, can that woman sing! And the fact that she’s mad hot makes her one of the most ideal women on my list. Anyway, the song was quite a hit, and it’s not bad to listen to at all!

1998 – This was the year I remember most vividly, as I still played a little soccer at the time. Ricky Marin’s ‘Cup of Life’ was a crowd favourite, even for those who weren’t into the game. I have to admit that I loved the song too (blame it on the influx of boy bands), as it was a really catchy tune!

1994 – I have to admit that this song is my favourite from the lot. Queen’s anthemic ‘We Are The Champions’ was the official song for this year’s FIFA World Cup. I grew up listening to my dad’s old Queen records, and can still remember covering my ears with giant headphones during Diwali, as I was terrified of crackers (c’mon, I was only a toddler back then). All in all, this one will always be my favourite anthem!

So there you have it. Five FIFA World Cup songs that really rocked the world! And don’t forget to watch the videos!
