Stacy’s Penitence – taking hardcore to another level!

Just a couple of weeks back, my friend brought up this video by Stacy’s Penitence on Youtube, insisting that I see it. The song’s name is Veronica, and it can be quite deceiving at first. It started out all ‘emo’ and mellow, but around a minute into the song, it turned around and became this hardcore/screamo song that just took me by surprise!

The production for the song is pretty neat; the guitar tones and vocals cut through really nicely, although I suspect they’ve programmed the drums using Fruity Loops. Still, it’s an awesome attempt at making something professional, especially when you’ve got limited resources.

The video appears to have been done on a pretty tight budget, but has been executed and edited really well. The room (probably a bedroom or jam room) they’ve shot the song in has everything from mosaic tiles and ceiling fans to skulls on the wall with glowing red eyes (at 2 mins 26 secs)! It’s KVLT to the max!! Whoever has edited this video has clearly taken a lot of time and paid attention to detail, especially with the effects.

All in all, this is some really killer s**t. I have to admit that it sounds a lot like the hundreds of other hardcore/screamo bands all over the world, but it’s awesome for Indian standards. But don’t take my word for it; check out the video for yourself. And if you want some more music, check out their Myspace page.

Keep it up guys!! :)
